Bali

I went to Bali, Indonesia, this past week with my sister. My brother in law had to go for work. They asked if I wanted to go. At first I thought there was no way. How could I just take off and go to Bali?!? And then it hit me, how could I not go. What could possibly be a good enough excuse to not go? Oh trust me, I made up some excuses in the beginning when they asked me but then ultimately they were all pretty lame.

We had an amazing time. We stopped over in Singapore for 24 hours. I liked it but am not sure I would need to go back there. But now I can say I’ve been to Singapore. We were in Bali on the ocean front for 3 days. It was the nicest resort. The staff was so kind, soft spoken, attentive. The food was great. It was hard to leave there. But Tom’s work was done and so we packed up and went to Ubud, to the jungle. Our Grab driver, like Lyft or Uber in the US, took us site seeing. We saw how they made silk fabric painting called Batik. We saw temples and went to the oldest one in Indonesia. We saw the Lubak cats who poop out the coffee beans that are then roasted to make a wonderful coffee. We went to a waterfall that I can’t remember the name of at this moment. When we go to our jungle resort, Kayon, the first thing I noticed was the mosquito net around their bed. I had a cute little twin bed brought in that was set up next to their bed. It was comical on the first night and we got a great laugh out of the thought of me being eaten alive that night with mosquitos. But I didn’t get any bites.

We explored Ubud one day. We ate. We went to the market. We went to the monkey sanctuary which was so awesome to see! We passed many, many massage places and spas and even some yoga places. I didn’t check any of them out but thought it would probably be cool to do sometime. There just wasn’t enough time on this trip. My sister and I took the 7 a.m. yoga class on the last morning. It was a nice experience. I’ve never done yoga in such a beautiful setting before. We took a walk and saw the rice fields. And then, just like that, our trip came to an end and we had about 33 hours of travel to come home. We came home via Tokyo and so I can say I’ve been there too.

I’m still doing laundry and unpacking but have reflected back on the week and the wonderful, sunny, laughter filled moments and am thankful, so thankful that I said yes to the trip. So if you ever get the chance to take a trip and are looking for excuses, don’t, because it’s the memories that you make that will be with you forever. Cheers to Singapore, Bali, and Ubud and one of many, trips of a lifetime!
